This tells an epic story of three mysterious stones in west Mayo, Ireland. Three Stones: The Cross and the Circle shows that the stones represent the Southern Cross, a constellation last visible from Ireland more than 6,000 years ago.
Dr Rónán Lynch has discovered that three decorated stones a few kilometres south of Westport are a star map of the Southern Cross and the constellation Centaurus as it appeared in Irish skies in 4,100 BCE. The book and exhibition, illustrated by photographer Karen Cox and artist Freya Bartels shows that our druid ancestors did indeed leave a record of their work, in stone, and in spectacular style. This discovery may help decipher decorated stones across the country whose meaning remains unknown.
Drawing on art, astronomy, and mythology, we show that these three stones map out a great event that has been forgotten for thousands of years.
